“Amplification of Youth Voices: Youth Influencing Health Practice, Research, and Policy in Africa”
Background
Every year, on the fringes of the International Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA), the Africa CDC Youth Pre-Conference (YPC) is a youth initiative. In order to give them a platform to network with young, prominent health experts, discuss current and emerging health issues on the continent with peers, and present their work to a continental audience, it brings together young African public health professionals from all over the continent and the diaspora.
The themes of the previous YPC editions in 2022 and 2023 were “Youth Leadership for A Safer and Healthier Africa” and “Meaningful youth engagement for advancing sustainable health security in Africa,” respectively. At the most recent event, YPC 2023, almost 250 young representatives from 48 member states of the African Union participated. In addition to small group workshops on particular subject areas and co-creation sessions for the Bingwa Initiative 2.0 and the Africa CDC’s Strategy for Youth Engagement and Participation in Global Health, it offered opportunities for interaction with high-ranking authorities and public health professionals.
