The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is offering overseas MSc and PhD scholarships for the 2024/2025 academic session. These scholarships are aimed at developing indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry. The scheme allows candidates to apply for specific programs at partner institutions in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia. The scholarship covers flight tickets, health insurance, tuition fees, bench fees (if applicable), and allowances for accommodation and living expenses.
Eligibility criteria for MSc application:
To be eligible, MSc applicants must have a minimum of a second class upper (2.1) qualification or a second class lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience. They must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC), be computer literate, and possess 5 O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics. They also need to submit a statement of purpose explaining the reasons for their proposed study, its relevance to the industry, and its expected impact on national development. Additionally, applicants must have a National Identity Number (NIN) and verify it before applying for the scholarship.
Eligibility criteria for PhD application:
For PhD applicants, they must have completed the mandatory NYSC, be computer literate, possess 5 O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics, and have a minimum of a Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a good post-graduate degree grade. They need to submit a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry, including the topic, introduction, objective, methodology, and mode of data collection. PhD applicants who are lecturers must also provide a letter from their Vice Chancellors confirming that they are not receiving any other scholarships. Like MSc applicants, PhD applicants must have a NIN and verify it before applying.

Requirements:
Applicants are required to attach scanned copies of the following documents:
- Degree certificate or statement of result
- NYSC discharge certificate,
- WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results,
- Recent passport photograph,
- Local government identification letter,
- and master’s degree certificate (for PhD applicants).
- They should also provide evidence of membership in professional associations.
Eligible courses and institutions:
The scholarship is limited to PTDF approved courses in partner institutions and is only awarded for studies relevant to the oil and gas industry. The proposed course of study must also be related to the applicant’s previous studies.
Note: Multiple applications will lead to disqualification, and candidates who have been sponsored by the Fund for a scholarship category (MSc/PhD) are ineligible to apply again for the same category.
