In the realm of controlling infectious diseases, mathematical modeling is a crucial tool. Creating mathematical formulas to describe the spread of infectious illnesses among populations is part of it. By looking at these models, researchers can get a better understanding of how diseases spread and how different preventative measures might impact disease transmission.
The goal of the Malaria Modelling Fellowship (MMF)
is to increase the mathematical modeling proficiency of Nigerian public health experts. Through the Fellowship, participants will gain access to an extensive curriculum that covers essential modeling content, a deep understanding of malaria epidemiology, including transmission dynamics, and supplementary modules that are essential to advancing their careers and giving them modeling competency that is in high demand. The World Health Organization (WHO), Corona Management Systems (CMS), National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) are partners in this collaborative initiative, which is funded.
The goal of the fellowship is to:
- boost the number of mathematical modelers with training in malaria at the doctorate and post-doctoral levels who are stationed at Nigerian universities.
- strengthen the National Malaria Elimination Program’s (NMEP) ability to use modeling techniques as a tool to assist with evaluation and strategic planning.
- enhance the National Malaria Elimination Program’s (NMEP) ability to model strategies as a tool to assist strategic planning and assesses
