Y-HEALTH INCUBATION PROGRAM
The call for applications for Bingwa PLUS, an incubator for young African health champions who are passionate about enhancing the health of their communities, has been announced by the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Office to the African Union and YouthHubAfrica.
What is Bingwa PLUS?
An extension of the African Union’s Bingwa Initiative, Bingwa PLUS organized youth health advocates, or Bingwas, to mobilize communities and increase vaccination rates throughout Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic. It aims to improve the capacity of young health advocates to plan, fund, and oversee successful community health projects. Participants in this program will strengthen their leadership and capacities to develop and implement innovative, scalable solutions to public health challenges, build structures that can support the continent in times of health crises, and acquire the skills necessary to address critical health needs in their communities.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking youth-led, youth-driven, youth-focused, scalable community health programs that have the potential to make a long-lasting difference.
Applicants must fulfill the following requirements in order to apply:
- Citizens of AU member states
- Aged 18-35
- Passionate public health professionals with a track record of enhancing community health outcomes, leadership potential, and experience.
- Submission of a proposal demonstrating an excellent understanding of the health challenge to be addressed and offering a clear, scalable solution to the difficulty.
- able to participate in a four-month incubation program
- We encourage applications from underrepresented or disadvantaged groups, such as gender, young people from rural areas, young people with impairments, geographic balance, etc.
- Applicants with ideas related to current disease outbreaks and health emergencies, such as Mpox and Marburg, will be given a priority.
