The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Center for Development and Entrepreneurship was established with the conviction that market-driven solutions from entrepreneurs are essential to promoting sustainable prosperity in emerging countries worldwide.
By uniting African entrepreneurs who share a vision for a continent where people, ideas, and resources flow across national boundaries and where ecosystems support the growth and success of innovation-driven businesses, The Foundry Fellowship exemplifies this belief. This network is essential to changing the perception of Africa to one of opportunity, plenty, creativity, and vibrancy.
About the fellowship
For successful entrepreneurs who are dedicated to spearheading the acceleration and interconnectivity of Africa’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems, the Foundry Fellowship is an eight-month, life-changing opportunity.
The fellowship is intended for leaders with integrity who want to spur inclusive growth and systemic change throughout Africa. The following are the reasons why applicants decide to apply for the fellowship:
- They’ve been successful in growing an innovative company.
- They are at a turning moment in their careers as leaders, AND
- They are looking for strategies to help the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystems in Africa expand and change.
Key dates
The application period begins on May 17.
The application period ends on June 30.
July–August: Staff interviews, community conversations, and alumni of the Foundry Fellow program.
September: Promises were made, acceptance letters were sent.
October: A virtual orientation.
November: A week-long tour of Africa’s ecosystems (exact location to be determined).
January/February: A week-long tour of Africa’s ecology (exact location to be determined).
April/May: Fellowship celebration event and US ecosystem tours (first place TBD, second destination will be Boston/Cambridge; about two weeks of travel).Upon receipt of acceptance letters, dates will be verified and sent to the selected candidates.
